Pumpkin Topiary

Yes, I am sharing more fall decorations... Can you tell fall is my absolute favorite time of year?  It is even cool in south Alabama this weekend.  The weather is gorgeous!!  I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend.

Last year, before I started blogging, I made this pumpkin topiary.   I wish I could say it was my idea, but, it totally was the creation of my friend, Suzanne, at www.oursouthernnest.blogspot.com.  Suzanne and I became friends years and years ago when we both lived in another state.  She is a wonderful mom, teacher, decorator and blogger.  You can find her directions for making the topiary here

As you can tell, mine turned out a little differently - and I think that is the coolest thing about using ideas from your friends - you can tweak them to fit the items you have on hand or the items you can find.

My husband helped me with this project.  I traced the stars and circles using a stencil.  I freehanded the "swirly" shapes.  Jon used the hot knife to cut out the shapes.  He also cut out the top of the bottom two pumpkins and the bottom of the top two pumpkins.  Jon was worried that the glue would not hold the topiary securely enough so he inserted very skinny long nails through the pumpkins that are together  - you can't see them, they just made the structure stronger.

The entry in our former house was a little larger.
I loved the orange lights in the tree by the front door.

I purchased a large black plant pot, but didn't really like the look of it so it was back to the store.... I finally decided on the plant stand.  Suzanne wrapped grapevine around hers, but I couldn't find grapevine that I liked; however, all of the fall garland were on sale at the time so I used those instead.  The final touch was the string of clear lights that look just "oh so cute" at night and a two whimsical black spiders.

I was so excited to get this down from the attic this weekend.  We did discover that we have electrical issue because the outlet by the front door is not working.  (Ugh! We have called an electrician.)  I have included pictures from this year in our new house.  I also included a few pictures from last year so that you can see how it looked at night.

A close- up :-)  This was taken last year.

One more picture from this year (It was driving me
nuts that the cord looked so bad in the first picture.)

As always, thanks for visiting!  Jon and Seth are at baseball practice and I am going to make homemade muscadine jelly.  Something about making jelly just makes me feel so "Martha Stewarty".  Come back soon and I will share my recipe :-))
